CMLL DISTINGUISHED LECTURER SERIES introduces Dr. Michael Saman, who will present "The Movement of Power: W.E.B. Du Bois at the Opera," (April 16th, 1:00 pm. Webex event). Dr. Michael Saman will be speaking on the way politics and art interact in W.E.B. Du Bois’s short story “Of the Coming of John,” from The Souls of Black Folk, which features music from Wagner’s opera, Lohengrin.

Dr. Saman teaches German at New York University. His research focuses on 18th and 19th-century German thought, intersections of philosophy and literature, and intersections of German and Africana intellectual history. He is currently preparing a book titled The Voice of Time: Classical German Thought and the Ethics of Progress in W.E.B. Du Bois’s The Souls of Black Folk.
The talk will be on April 16th, 1:00 pm.
